Description
The sword featured is the Crecy, by Albion, with an oxblood grip and aged hilt components.
I would like to use this sword in a photo contest, which I discussed in a separate journal, here: [link]
Unfortunately I don't want to use this picture since the mail used as a background is butted, which is a non-historic design.
Butted means the links are simply closed together and left as-is, which makes it easy to pry the rings open with enough force, and therefore offers mediocre protection. Historically each link would be riveted closed. This process is much more time consuming, however, and at the moment a proper historic reproduction is well out of my price range. So for now I content myself with this decorative stand-in.
The photo was also a little rushed, so I didn't have time to adjust the lighting enough to take it at a lower ISO. I was just too excited to show off my new toy! This will probably be scrapped once I come up with the picture I want to use in the contest. Maybe I'll add more armor or an attractive model.

Nothing wrong with butted chain....most field repairs were butted. Pretty much ALL of the Indian, Persian, and Moslem nations chain were butted. But it WAS considered inferior in Europe, thats true.
